Japanese utility plans test run of nuclear reactor closed since 2004 accident

A power company in central Japan plans a test run of a nuclear reactor that was shut down two years ago after causing the country's worst-ever nuclear plant accident, an official said Monday.

Kansai Electric Power Co. plans to test the No. 3 reactor at its Mihama Nuclear Power Plant some time around late September, company official Katsuhiko Takahashi said. He said another test would be planned before full operations of the reactor resume.

Kyodo News agency said the test run would be conducted from Sept. 26 to Oct. 3.
